A day before the Republic Day, cell phones, SIM cards and a host of electronic gadgets were seized in a raid inside the Alipore Central Jail.The Detective Department of the Kolkata Police, led by DC Jawed Shamim, and the jail authorities jointly conducted the raid after receiving information that cell phones, SIM cards and electronic goods had been kept inside cells, Additional Director General (Jail) B D Sharma said.He said six mobile phones, three SIM cards, a DVD player, 10 CDs, four mobile chargers, a scissor and a knife were recovered from cell no 7, 8 and 9.None in the jail claimed possession of the seized materials, though it is well nigh impossible for anyone to smuggle in them without the involvement of the jail staff, a senior officer of the jail said.Jawed Shamim said the call details would be checked to gauge the ramification of the racket.Promising to spare none involved in the racket, Sharma said, "We are looking into all possibilities."
