Mixed reaction from Bengal film-makers

'Slumdog Millionaire' that won eigth awards at the Oscars, with two going to music maestro A R Rahman, evoked mixed reaction from film-makers in West Bengal today."I am very glad. Such awards were long overdue. However, the honour has come at last," film-maker Sandip Ray, whose legendary director father Satyajit Ray received an Oscar a few months before his death in 1992, told.

Film director Buddhadev Dasgupta said "better films have been made in India in the past and many of them acclaimed abroad." Stating that enormouos efforts were made for the Danny Boyle film and that it was expensive, he said, "the acting is remarkable with beautiful cinematography." Film-maker Mrinal Sen said "I have not seen the film yet. I can't say anything right now." It evoked a reaction from the political firmanent also with Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee saying she was delighted to know that Rahman, Gulzar and sound engineer Resul Pookutty were honoured.
