Telegrams to Nandigram lying undelivered

Over 100 important telegrams of Army and CISF besides interview calls and appointment letters to people of Nandigram and other areas of East Midnapore district are lying undelivered due to lack of funds to buy postage stamps."The telegrams have been arriving, but are not being distributed for want of money sanctioned to buy postage stamps by local BSNL authorities. Telegrams are put in envelopes and distributed to the recipients by post," Srikanta Pal, GM, BSNL, Kharagpur telecom district, said.Telegrams for Nandigram and other areas in East Midnapore district are received and distributed from the BSNL office at the district headquarters of Tamluk.Officials said 104 telegrams to be sent to the residents of Nandigram block, Haldia, Contai and Egra subdivisions of the district are lying with the authorities since February nine.Only telegrams meant for people living in Tamluk town are being despatched by a messenger.Pal said the matter came to his notice after locals lodged complaints of non-receipt of telegrams to him and now the local SDO (Telecom) has been urged to immediately sanction money to dispatch the telegrams.He the officials at the telegram office have also been asked to contact over telephone and collect the messages.
