New School by Lions Club

The Secondary section of the school building of Lions Calcutta (Greater) Vidya Mandir at Chowhati was inaugurated by Sri Partha De, Minister for Education at a colourful ceremony this afternoon, 1st March & attended by eminent dignitaries from the locality as well as from the city.
The ICSE affiliated, English medium, co-educational school is a project ofLions Club of Calcutta Greater.
It was conceived in 2001 with the primary objective of providing quality education at affordable price to the people of Chowhati. In the initial phase members acquired 62 kathas of land and got a grant of USD 75,000 from LCIF and the Club members collected as well as donated USD 1,60,000 (Rs. 80 lakhs) to commence construction of the school building.
Lion S.L.Daga, Chairman of the school committee, informed all present that the school has reached another milestone by being affiliated to the Delhi board ( ICSE) and is opening its secondary section as symbol of service to the people of Chowhati,with whom the club members have been associated for last 40 years.
Lion V.D.Jhunjhunwala, President, School Managing Committee shared that last eight years have been a saga of continuous growth for the school.
The school has become a center of hope for the guardians who otherwise had no other decent school providing quality education for the holistic development of children in the area. With humble fee structure, school strives to provide academic, cultural, and sporting activities for children grooming them to face challenges of future at par with their counterparts getting numerous facilities in the city schools.
Currently more than 550 students studying in class nursery to class VII are benefiting from the school.
The children are encouraged to use computers from class 1 and the latest audio visual techniques are used to impart education. Special emphasis is laid on extra curricular activities.
ACHIEVEMENTS
The club earned LIONS SIGNATURE PROJECT award at the All India Lions Conference held in Mumbai in 2003.
It was recognized as best educational project of Lions Clubs International Distt. 322B1 and multiple District.
Abhishek Majumdar student of class VIII was awarded the first prize in the PEACE POSTER competition organized by Lions International.
