Ex DG of Ordnance Factory Board, 3 others held in graft case

Blowing the lid of irregularities in the military purchases, CBI today arrested a former Director General of Kolkata based Ordnance Factory Board and three of his alleged accomplices on alleged bribery charges and recovered crores of rupees in cash and foreign currency.Former Director General of Ordnance Factory Board Sudipta Ghosh and his alleged accomplice Kanai Lal Dass were arrested from Kolkata while two others -- Aashish Bose and alleged middleman for Israel Military Industries Pradeep Rana -- were nabbed from here, CBI said.The agency's probe has also indicated at the role of an Additional General Manager of Air India, Ramesh Nambiar, who was in close touch with foreign suppliers of military equipment to India, helped Ghosh in opening a bank account in a foreign bank -- RBS Coutts Bank Pvt Ltd in Singapore.Nambair's house in the national capital was also searched and CBI seized 22.92 lakh in cash, the agency said.The account has a balance of 99,997 US Dollars (Rs 50 lakh approximately). The account was in the Ghosh's name and the agency also seized a bank statement of November 10, 2008.During searches of Ghosh's house in Kolkata, CBI recovered Rs 87 lakh cash besides US Dollars 10,000 (approximately Rs five lakh), National Savings Certificates worth 13.85 lakh in his and family members' name, bank passbooks and details monthly income schemes worth Rs 22.78 lakh and jewellery worth Rs 23.74 lakh from his house and locker.
