Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda's wife who was arrested last month today approached the High Court seeking bail.
Dhanurdhar Das, father of Subhashree Das alias Mili, moved the court through a writ challenging arrest and illegal confinement of his daughter, saying a woman's fundamental rights, freedom and liberty guaranteed under the Constitution, have been violated.
The petitioner also pointed out that the arrest of a woman after sunset, not allowing the arrested to contact her relatives and lawyer, leaving the arrested woman's nine-year-old daughter in despair and moreover remand of the arrested person under police custody beyond stipulated 15 days violated the provisions of CrPC and Supreme Court's guidelines in D K Basu case.
Although, the writ was filed today, the HC had not yet taken cognisance of the petition, the petitioner's advocate P K Jena said.
