Metro extension

Metro Railway will be extended from Dum Dum to Dakshineswar. The announcement
was made in Parliament on Friday by the chairman of the railway standing committee,
Basudeb Acharya.“The project has been included in the supplementary demand, to be placed in the winter session of the House which starts on February 12,” Acharya said.
“Work on the Rs 500-crore project will start soon.”Half the project cost will be borne by the state.
Acharya, the CPM MP from Bankura, held a meeting with state urban development
minister Asok Bhattacharya and senior railway officials at Writers’ on Friday to discuss
various railway projects pending in Bengal.
