Todi's gets bail.

Rejecting the opposition from CBI, the Supreme Court today granted bail to Kolkata industrialists Ashok Kumar Todi and his brother Pradeep Kumar Todi in the Rizwanur Rehman suicide case.A Bench of Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and P Sathasivam rejected the argument of Additional Solicitor General Amarender Saran, appearing for the CBI, that the accused if released on bail would influence the course of investigation by intimidating the witnesses."What is the point in keeping them in jail. You (CBI) provide protection to your witnesses," the bench observed. When Saran persisted with the argument, the apex court said "You can seek cancellation of their bail if they try to influence the investigation." Accordingly, the apex court ordered that the Todi brothers be released on bail bond of Rs one lakh each, besides sureties. The bench also said that the two accused shall surrender their passports to the authorities.Ashok Kumar Todi and his brother Pradeep have been accused by the CBI of abetting the suicide of Rizwanur Rehman who had married the former's daughter Priyanka Todi against their wish.Rizwanur was found dead near the railway tracks on September 21 last year, a month after his marriage to Priyanka.
