Nine months after ASI was killed by Maoists, daughter waits for CM’s promised job

A job promised by Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee seems to be a distant dream for Barnali Roy, daughter of slain Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Swapan Roy who was killed by the Maoists when they raided the Sankrail police station in West Midnapore district in October, 2009. The state’s bureaucracy seems to be inert, not only when it needs to issue a notification to implement a policy in the state but even in case of clearing a file of a poor girl whose father was killed in a Maoists attack.

Despite the Chief Minister’s promised compensation package and a job to a member of the family of the slain police personnel, the state home department holds back the file and the 24-year-old daughter of the police officer still starts her day with an unending wait for her promised job, followed by a tour of the offices of senior police officials in Midnapore and at times Writers’ Buildings.
